The Sparkles and Crumbs Sartorial Sharing!

July 9, 2009

This is a lovely tag from Sparkles and Crumbs. I never turn down something new to blog about. You can see the original post about it here. I don’t have anyone specific to tag, so if anyone wants to join please do so. :D

How would you define your style?
Comfortable and preppy. Currently I’m still in my jeans, polo, and flats phase. I’m currently looking to change that, but I’m not really sure where I want to head. I’m leaning toward the clean menswear look. I love vests, blazers, and the like. We’ll see.

What is your favourite item of clothing EVER?
My brown low top Chucks of course. Best shoes ever!
chucks

What is said favourite item of clothing most suited to (e.g. sailing the seven seas as a free-booting buccaneer, a street carnival in Rio, afternoon tea at the Ritz)?
Everything except the most formal of events I suppose. :D Especially nice for casual sight seeing around town worn with a nice polo and a pair of khakis.

Share a fabulous or just plain entertaining style-related story!
Huh, I don’t really have one. lol It’s kind of sad really.

Who are your style icons?
The great Katharine Hepburn. I love her style and her confidence. She looked amazing in anything.
Katharine Hepburn

Which song should have been written for you?
‘A Woman’s Worth’ – by Alicia Keys

What is your favourite fairy-tale?
It’s always been a tie between ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’. ‘The Little Mermaid’ may edge over a little because I like the original in which the mermaid does not get the prince and turns into sea foam. Maybe I’m just morbid but I like the realness of it. You don’t always get your happy ending.

Favourite word?
‘Sesquipedalian’ which is basically a long word that means ‘long word and the people who like to use them. I just like how it sounds. :D

Dream trolley dash locations?
There’s so many! Any Coach store or Sephora. But my ultimate shopping spree would have to be a bookstore. Take me to a Barnes and Nobles and I will love you forever!

Dream location for your future Vogue photo shoot?
London. I’d love to visit the entire city.

If you could hire one fashion designer as your personal tailor, whom would it be?
Right now I can’t really choose between Ann Demeulemeester and Dsquared². If I could have both I would be very happy. :D

Signature scent?
It changes all the time but right now it’s Clinique’s ‘Happy To Be’. I like that it’s not too overpowering. And it’s just a nice fresh smell. I’m not even sure if they offer it any more. I got it from a CCO.

Which era would you most like to live in?
The 1920’s, purely for the music. I would have loved to have heard artists like Bessie Smith live. I know that recordings just can’t do their sounds justice.

Most recent purchase?
I just bought some underwear on sale at Aerie as well as two scarves. They were one sale too so I couldn’t resist. I don’t know what it is about that store that I have to keep going there. :D

A tough one… if you were a food what would you be?
Wow, this is hard. But I’d have to say Korean kimchi. It’s spicy but awesome. And it’s a side that you have which almost anything. It’s makes everything taste better. At least that’s my opinion. ;)

And, finally – who is the love of your life (so far)?
I don’t have one at the moment. I just haven’t met him yet. (At least I hope that’s the case.) So right now I’m living vicariously through the leading men of literature. If there was one character I’d have to pick right now it’s everyone’s favorite vampire, Edward Cullen. I’m not going to deny that it’s a total cliche, but come on! Look at him!

Sunday Shuffle

July 5, 2009

1. Just A Dream – Carrie Underwood: I love Carrie in general but this song is just amazing. The story behind is just so sad and compelling. I loved the video for this one. All of her songs are like that.

2. If You Seek Amy – Britney Spears: No matter what anyone says I will love Britney’s music. She may lose her mind occasionally but her music is always on point. It’s catchy and fun. :D This song is just so funny to listen to. I’m constantly amazed by what they will let play on the radio. lol

3. These Words (I Love You, I Love You) – Natasha Bedingfield: I love her! Her sound is just so unique and amazing! And this song is just so fun to listen to and sing along with.

4. Here for the Party – Gretchen Wilson: Gretchen is just so fun to listen to. I love the pace to this song and her lyrics are fun to sing along to. I love this one in the car. :D

5. Dirty Dancing – Black Eyed Peas: This one was from the ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights” soundtrack. I love the Latin undertones to this song. Great song to dance to.

6. Leavin’ – Jesse McCartney: I love his music right now. His sound is much more mature of course. Great beats and lyrics. I like the R&B undertones in his music instead of the pure pop of his older stuff.

7. I Am Not My Hair – India Arie Feat Akon: I love the message behind this song. Being true to yourself and not letting the physical define you.

8. Confessions II – Usher: I loved this whole album from Usher. This song was just great especially with the video. I loved the beat and the fact that seemed a bit autobiographical considering his break up with Chili at the time.

9. Just Got Paid – ‘NSync: It’s ‘NSync, do I really need to say more? ;)

10. Complicated – Robin Thicke: I loooooove him! He is just too cute and his voice is just amazing! I love a man that plays piano. When I first bought this album I had this song on repeat all the time. :D

Just a Minute in…June

June 30, 2009

Amanda Leigh

Watching…‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and ‘Royal Pains’. The latter is especially awesome. It’s like a cross between ‘House’ and ‘McGuyver’. lol

Listening to…Mandy Moore’s new album. I especially love ‘Merrimack River’. Very folksy.

Eating and drinking…more water and Gatorade. I’m trying to cut back on my soda’s. I’ve also started drinking V8 Splash which is really good. I’ve also tried to cut back on fast food and I’m eating a little healthier. Emphasis on the little. lol

Shopping…for different types of clothing. I’m approaching my 30’s slowly but surely so I really need a more grown up look. I’m not really sure what my look is. I just know that I’m getting tired of jeans and polos.

Trying to… find a place to live and find a new job still. I’m really hoping something pops up soon. I’m so ready to move out. :D I’ve been putting in my resume everywhere and visiting apartments left and right.

Sunday Shuffle

June 21, 2009

This is a new type of blog entry that I’m hoping will make a weekly appearance granted that I don’t get lazy or forget. Both of which are completely possible scenarios. lol Basically I’m going to push the shuffle button on my iPod and list the first ten songs that play for me, no matter how embarrassing. (BTW, sorry this was so late in the day. I thought I published it but apparently I only saved it as a draft. :/ But from now on I plan to post this earlier on Sundays.)

1. Bills, Bills, Bills – Destiny’s Child: This was during that big drama with changing members and kicking people out. But this album was awesome. :D Gotta love their harmonies. I miss the original group. I have nothing against Michelle but the original foursome was amazing. And this video was cute.

2. Glamorous – Fergie: I love Fergie! She is awesome both by herself and with the Black Eyed Peas. I love this song, both the lyrics and the beat. Perfect car riding music.

3. Low (feat. T. Pain) – Flo Rida: I love this song! Flo Rida is just great and T.Pain is always good with his collabs. Another great song to drive around to.

4. Tearin’ Up My Heart – ‘N Sync: I love ‘N Sync! Even if they aren’t together anymore. I love their old music and still listen to it. I loved them more than I liked the Backstreet Boys and totally stopped listening to the Backstreet Boys when I discovered ‘N Sync. :D They were so adorable! Especially JT.

5. Do Your Thing – ‘N Sync: Ditto. (And the fact that two songs by them came up back to back is really funny.)

6. Wouldn’t It Be Loverly (My Fair Lady) – Julie Andrews: This is my favorite song from the musical. As much as I like Audrey Hepburn I would have loved to have seen Julie Andrews in that movie. Her voice was just amazing and had such a great range.

7. Don’t Forget to Remember Me – Carrie Underwood: I’ve loved her since American Idol. I really wanted her to win from the beginning. Her voice is just so pure and strong. And her songs are great to listen to.

8. There’s Hope – India Arie: I loved this whole album by her. It’s very uplifting and inspiring to listen to. I like to listen to it when I’m feeling low.

9. Everybody’s Fool – Evanescence: Probably my favorite song by them. I just love Amy’s voice. Their videos were always great too.

10. Rehab – Rihanna: I’ve loved her from the beginning. This song is amazing and the video for this song is just so hot. JT needs to be in every music video. :D

Well, that’s my first list. As you can see my music is fairly eclectic. I like all different kinds. Also, I’m taking this as a time to take music recommendations as well. If there is something or someone you think I might like just let me know in comments. I’d love some new music to listen to.
