Back from my holiday!

December 3, 2009

First, I’d like to apologize for being a complete loser. I totally was lost for the month of November. I do have good excuse though, for all that saw my last post I was busy trying to catch up for NaNoWriMo. I tried so hard! But it was all futile. I got halfway through. :/ It’s better than my previous efforts but still not quite the win I was going for. But maybe next year. I have to say that I really like the story I was going for so maybe I’ll continue to write it at a more leisurely pace now.

Moving on! I went down to Florida to visit with family for Thanksgiving. It was a lot of fun! Of course the drive down was a bit cramped with the five of use in a Pathfinder. Those things are really not made with passengers in mind, especially those in the back. But the food was amazing! Of course we almost managed to burn my aunt’s house down with the turkey, but other than that it was great! lol The mac and cheese was a little burned on top but we just ate around that.

What was not fun was Black Friday. I don’t know how I managed to get roped into any of it but this was my schedule. Thursday evening went to go see ‘Ninja Assassin’ with the siblings and cousins at around 8 pm. (It was awesome by the way!) Got back to the house at around 10 and managed a small catnap before having to be up at 11:30. We tried first to go to an outlet mall that was opening at midnight for some sales. We couldn’t even make it off the exit, it was back up for about 2 miles! We finally drove past it to turn around and saw some people even parked on the side of the highway and just walked over to the outlet to shop. Insane!

So we decided to hit up Target and JC Penney, starting with Target since they were sure to sell out first. Since Target wasn’t opening until 5 am we ate at IHOP then spent the next few hours standing out in the cold waiting for the doors to open. My dad managed to get his GPS system and my aunt got a flat screen 32inch tv and you know what I got? Nothing. My 1TB desktop hardrive for only $60 was gone! I even got a run over by some old lady’s cart and I got zip. Then we went to JC Penney and I managed to get some Christmas gifts and Bath and Body works was having a decent sale so I got some stuff from there. We finally went back to the outlet after the insane line went down and shopped for a few hours. But by then I was so tired I wasn’t even interested anymore. By the time we got back to the house it was 9 am and I fell into bed immediately.

*sigh* Anyway, all I’m saying is that I’m never doing that again. It’s all about Cyber Monday for me from now on. I don’t care what anyone says. Nothing will get me out among those crazy people ever again. So, how was your Thanksgiving? :D

NaNoWriMo Day 4

November 5, 2009

OMG! It’s day 4 of NaNoWriMo and I’m already behind. I will say that I’m further along than I was last year at this same time but that’s not really saying anything. lol All I will say is that I’m hoping some inspiration hits my ass soon because I will run out of ideas any day now. :/ All I can say is that this year’s novel is a Young Adult/Fantasy novel. I don’t want to jinx it. Wish me luck!

Just a Minute in… October

Happy Halloween everyone!

Planning… for NaNoWriMo! I’m so excited for it. I have a plot, we’ll just have to see if my planning will mean that I can actually finish this year. *crosses fingers*

Buying… boots! I love the fall season and all the clothes that come with it. I managed two cute boots from Charlotte Russe when shoes were on sale buy one get one for $15. :D Plus I used an additional online coupon for a discount and free shipping! I ended paying less than $55 for everything. I love online shipping and I got the boots the other day…. to cute! I’m already planning outfits to wear with them.

Looking… forward to my birthday. It’s in November and it’s the big 25! OMG I’m almost 30. Where the hell did time go?

Bookworm

October 7, 2009

I saw this on Sparkle and Glitter’s blog the other day. It looked interesting and I love to read so I figured I’d fill it out. :D

Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack? Only if I’m hungry. But generally I don’t snack because it’s just uncomfortable to eat and hold a book at the same time.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read them, or does the idea of writing on your books horrify you? God, no! I hate to write in my books. It took me a while to even get used to writing in my textbooks. lol I don’t even fold pages down to bookmark them.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog ears? Leaving the book open flat? I used to use regular bookmarks but they falling out and I’d lose them. :/ So I started to use post-it notes because they stick and I always have them on hand anyway.

Fiction, Non-Fiction or both? Fiction usually. I’ll only read non-fiction if it’s something that really interests me.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? It depends. I can stop anywhere but if I can I’d prefer to at least read to the end of a chapter before stopping.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? If I can’t determine the meaning from the context I will stop to look it up if possible. But generally it’s not necessary.

What are you currently reading?
A Jill Kismet Novel: Redemption Alley by Lilith Saintcrow. I read her previous series, The Dante Valentine Series and I loved it and this new series is great as well. This is the third book in this series.

What is the last book you bought? The above book. :D I’ve been buying about buying books in the past while I still have books to read so I’ve been cutting back.

Are you the type of person who can only read one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? I can read more than one book at a time, they just can’t be too similar so I don’t get confused. lol So if I do it I try to read books from different genres.

Do you prefer series or stand alone books? I read either but looking at my bookshelf I do notice that I read a lot of series. :D

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over? I love Nora Roberts and Laurell K. Hamilton. I’ve actually turned both my sister onto them as well as some friends.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) There’s not too much of a system going on. I just have each author grouped together but nothing alphabetized or anything. And my series books are grouped in order, but that’s it.

Fab Friday 10/2/2009

October 2, 2009

1. First and most important in my mind is to let everyone know about NaNoWriMo. If you haven’t heard about it, November is the official National Novel Writing Month in the U.S and some other countries by now. This is the 11th year for it. For specifics just go to the site, but basically you write a novel with a minimum of 50,000 words in one month. You are declared a winner as long as you meet the minimum number of words whether the story itself is finished or not. You may end up with crap but at least you tried. So go sign up! :D

2. I loved this photo shoot with models without makeup on. Yes it’s in black and white but they still show their flaws proudly and look beautiful in spite of them.

3. I thought this was so cute! Buddha shaped pears! They put Buddha molds over the pears while they are still small and when it grows it takes the shape of Buddha! I would love to try this out with different shapes and different fruits or vegetables. :D

4. I’m absolutely in love with these twisted versions of Disney Princesses. I love the darker take on them. These were drawn long before the buyout of Disney and Marvel but I like Marvel’s take on them. My favs are ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ :D
